AMPEG Security Lighthouse FAQs

Our company only uses one virus scanner. Do I really need ASL?
The ASL cockpit visualises information more transparently that virus scanners fail to display adequately. In specific terms this means the geographical and historical distribution of pattern deployment events and viruses identified by the Security Information Map, and various statistical features. ASL also supports virus protection applications and other security software such as spam filters.

How long does it take to install ASL?
This process can take one or two weeks depending on the complexity of the security structures in your company.

How secure are our systems during the installation of ASL?
They remain 100% secure. Your security systems continue to function normally during the installation of ASL.

Do you train our staff to use ASL?
We supply you with full instructions on how to facilitate the system transfer. And we are available around the clock afterwards if any problems arise.

Are updates available for ASL, and, if so, how do I get hold of them?
ASL updates take place directly on-site and free of charge if you have signed a maintenance contract. We only charge fees for our staff on-site.

Will regularly updating our security products affect the performance of ASL?
No. ASL continues to function independently during the update phase. ASL automatically adopts your security application updates as soon as they take place.

How flexible is ASL in reality? To what extent can it be adapted to the requirements of our company?
You know best which aspects of your IT security are key to your business. Individually definable thresholds for all key security processes such as permitted time for pattern rollout allow you to specify where and how ASL supports you in controlling the status of your network security. The traffic light feature in the Security Information Map shows you where your defined thresholds have been exceeded.

Doesn't another security software application simply mean more work for administrators and security officers by giving rise to more complex working processes?
On the contrary. ASL is not just another security software application amongst a wealth of others. It is designed as a meta application for consolidating all the information from other applications, making them seamlessly accessible and reducing your work load. ASL itself does not generate individual cases and IT security data, but instead helps you to analyse existing information. You only need a password for authentication to access information on each console.

Is ASL capable of identifying and remedying specific security loopholes in an IT network?
ASL is not an intrusion detection system or virus protection application. It is designed to help you localise potential weak spots by visualising critical thresholds such as pattern deployment that have not been attained.

Does ASL install an agent on the security endpoints or clients?
No agents need to be installed on the clients for ASL to work. The corresponding security information is provided centrally by the management consoles in the applications you are using (for instance those from AV manufacturer Trend Micro – central access to the TMCM database).

Is the security information displayed in real-time in ASL?
No, because the information is collected from each management console in 5 to 15 minutes cycles, which means that a periodic delay in displaying the status in your network always takes place.

How is the security information assigned to the individual locations?
An internal table in which each network segment is assigned to the corresponding location allows the location of the computer to be identified using the IP address.
